How we count

Every number in these reports comes from the same weekly pull. Here's exactly what goes in and what doesn't.

Where the data comes from

We read 141 company job boards directly — each company's own Greenhouse, Ashby or Lever board, through the public feed those systems publish. We don't use LinkedIn, Indeed or any aggregator, which is where most reposted and duplicated listings come from.

What counts as a new role

A role is new if the company first published it in the seven days before the pull. We use the posting's original publish date, not its last-updated date: applicant tracking systems update listings in bulk, and a months-old role can look brand new if you go by the update stamp.

Filters

• Sales titles only: SDR/BDR, account executive, customer success and account management, solutions and sales engineering.
• No people managers: VP, director, head of, and sales/SDR manager roles are excluded.
• US only: US and US-remote roles. Clearly non-US locations are dropped.

Definitions

• New US sales roles: roles passing every filter above, first published in the last seven days.
• Companies hiring: distinct companies with at least one such role.
• Role mix: each role is sorted into one type by its title.
• Open 45+ days: the share of all open US sales roles on these boards that were first published more than 45 days before the pull.

Limits

The boards we track skew toward venture-backed B2B software companies, and the list grows over time as newly funded companies are added. When the number of boards changes noticeably from one week to the next, the report says so and gives a per-board rate alongside the raw count. This is a clear view of one important slice of the market, not a census of all sales hiring.

The series begins with the edition of October 1, 2026. Earlier internal pulls dated postings by their last update rather than their original publish date, which overstated weekly volume, so they aren't published or compared against.
